EE Publishers hosted a cocktail party and workshop at Emperors Palace on 29 August 2017 to launch its latest industry event: the SA Energy Storage 2017 Conference and Exhibition. The conference will take place at Emperors Palace on 28 and 29 November 2017, followed by site visits on 30 November.

Chris Yelland, the MD of EE Publishers, explained the rationale behind the conference, which is meant to bring together leaders in the energy storage sector to exchange knowledge and introduce their technologies and capabilities to the energy and related industries more broadly.

Roger Lilley, the editor of Energize magazine, in his welcome address said that following the development of renewable energy, energy storage would be the next “big thing” in the energy sector.

The 80-odd attendees included representatives from the private and public sector, including the Department of Energy’s IPP office, the IDC, as well as financial institutions – including the African Development Bank and funding agencies, equipment manufacturers, academics, and others.

After introducing the new conference website, Yelland led a workshop among participants to flesh out the conference programme to ensure all the relevant stakeholders are involved. Already the packed programme includes four keynotes, among them international experts in energy storage, and comprises different streams to cater for different aspects of energy storage.

Although some sponsors have come forward, Yelland said that there are opportunities for more. He also stressed the need for companies which want to exhibit at the event to act quickly if they want the best spots.
