EE Publishers celebrated Mandela Day 2017 with 18 children from the Mother of Peace Johannesburg home for children. The children, between the ages of six and eleven years, visited the company’s premises in Muldersdrift and were treated to a day of fun, games, eats, treats and gifts.

Lunch was demolished in minutes and soon it was time for the games to begin – “charades” and “pin the tail to the donkey” brought lots of laughter and fun, but the favourites for the day were the pony rides – one by one, apprehensive faces became confident as the children became acquainted with the ponies and took to horseback for the first time.

The visit ended with an impromptu soccer match against some of the company’s staff (which the visitors won five – nil), and soon it was time for goodbyes as the children boarded the Mother of Peace bus, goodie bags in hand and smiles everywhere.

Mother of Peace is a community-based, non-profit organisation which runs foster homes for abandoned and orphaned babies, children and young adults up to the age of 21. Three homes, situated in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Zimbabwe, provide a structured family environment and the children attend local nursery, primary and secondary schools. The organisation is in constant need of funding, donations and volunteers to help provide a home for these children and young people.
