Indoor mapping system for scale and data quality

NavVis launched its M6 indoor mobile mapping system for surveyors and AEC professionals’ demanding applications such as large-scale indoor mapping projects, factory planning, creating and updating as-built BIM models and construction monitoring. The all-in-one system captures 360° immersive imagery, photorealistic point clouds, Bluetooth beacons, WiFi signals and magnetic field data. It features a mobile lidar system that lets it scan faster than stationary devices, letting users capture up to 30 000 min a day. The M6 is notable for its 6D simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLAM) technology, which improves the quality of data capture and allows continuous scans of complex indoor environments, including uneven surfaces or changing elevations such as ramps, open spaces or long corridors. The system’s software is complemented by hardware features designed for quality data and ease of capture: four laser scanners with a range of up to 100 m are arranged to maximise scan coverage, while six cameras automatically take high-resolution images during mapping. The NavVis IndoorViewer software gives all stakeholeds access to the scanned environment through an interactive virtual building in their browser.
