Joburg’s power woes worsen

Large parts of Johannesburg are without power as a result of a technical problem, not at Eskom’s power stations, but at City Power’s infrastructure. City Power and Eskom technicians are on site working to restore power to the Prospect substation which feeds several smaller substations, which in turn supply power to many parts of the city. The utility reports that it started restoring supply at 09h00 and full supply to all areas is expected by 12:00. The technical problem is being investigated by both City Power and Eskom in order to determine what caused the loss of supply at the Prospect substation, which is one of the three bulk intake station in Johannesburg. Customers experiencing loss of power can call the City of Johannesburg’s call centre on 0860 562-874 or log a call on City Power’s website (www.citypower.co.za) and clicking on “Fault Logging”. City Power says it will send out updates on its Twitter account: @CityPowerjhb
