Barend Jacobus (Bennie) de Lange  passed away in hospital on 21 May 2017 after a battle with cancer. His memorial service was held on 26 May at the Dutch Reformed Church in Springs North.

Bennie served the Highveld branch of the Association of Municipal Electrical Utilities (AMEU) in a voluntary position as secretary, a position he held from August 2008.

Bennie served on various committees, was a leader in his church and served as the captain of the Springs Country Club for the last nine years. He was an ardent golfer, having started playing at the age of twelve. He played his last game on 15 April 2017. Bennie’s leadership was such that he was honoured by the Ekurhuleni Golf Union which elected him club captain of the year.

Bennie was born on 20 July 1959 at St. Mary’s hospital in Springs. After attending Christiaan Beyers primary and Delmas high schools, Bennie studied at Pretoria Technicon where he earned a T4 degree. He worked at Spoornet until he opened his own business in 1999. He joined the Mapule Group in 2007 and remained there until his passing.

Bennie is survived by his wife Susan and two children, Lelanie and Jaco, and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
