Moisture management systems for oil-filled power transformers

June 25th, 2018, Published in Articles: Energize

Moisture, in combination with temperature, is the primary factor affecting the degradation of the insulating paper and consequently the lifetime of the transformer. With the unique features of the Expiotech Moisture Management Systems (MMS), MR offers valuable solutions to utilities and industries to optimise the lifetime of their power transformers. The company’s Smart Drying System enables transformer operators to reduce and maintain the paper moisture at an optimum target value, while preserving the winding pressure at a safe level, all with the transformer remaining energised and in normal service. This means a transformer’s lifetime can be extended by up to 20 years and a reduction in the risk of failure. The company’s MMS units are equipped with intelligent moisture assessment and control via its own proprietary algorithms. The smart drying concept ensures accuracy, optimisation and control.
