July 4th, 2018, Published in Articles: PositionIT

Due to the insistence by the Department of Higher Education that only SAQA registered education service providers can issue formal qualifications, the Board of Executives of the Chamber of Mines has advised on the phasing out dates of the chamber of mines certificates.

The final date to register for the Chamber of Mines Certificate in Elementary Surveying or Elementary Sampling will be 31 August 2018. This will enable those candidates who register two full years to complete all the modules and examinations up until the Chamber of Mines Advanced Certificate in Mine Surveying or the Advanced Certificate in Mineral Valuation to be held in October 2020.

All persons currently registered in the Chamber of Mines examination system will also have until the October 2020 examinations to complete the route up to the Chamber of Mines Advanced Certificate in Mine Surveying or Advanced Certificate in Mineral Valuation.

The Qualifications Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) qualifications Levels 4 and 5 in Mine Surveying and Minerals Valuation are still in the process of being developed through the Mines Qualification Authority (MQA) and all queries regarding these qualifications should be addressed to the MQA.
