Elias Monage, the CEO of Afika Group – a 100% black-owned company – says his company, which through its subsidiary Afika Power, recently acquired Powertech Switchgear and Powertech QuadPro, will differentiate itself by localisation and diversification. Monage says the company plans to open a factory to manufacture panels and structures for CTs and VTs in one of the country’s industrial development zones. The company, which specialises in substation construction and switchgear, also intends to diversify into renewable energy projects in the industrial, commercial and residential sectors. The company will retain the Powertech Switchgear brandname, he says, but will change the name of Powertech QuadPro to Afika QuadPro. Monage, who describes himself as an entrepreneur with experience in engineering, says the company focuses on teaching skills and providing jobs for unemployed young people in the areas where the company is active. The company also supports a school for deaf children, he says.
