In October 2017 TomTom Africa has announced the pre-order availability of its new Bridge Hub platform – a connected mobility solution that’s extends the functionality of its Bridge terminals to other devices. The company also introduced new and updated Bridge Terminal devices to its range. The Bridge platform is a connected mobility solution for drivers in business verticals such as logistics, emergency services, transport services and maintenance teams, connecting field workers to the back office.

The new ruggedised devices now run Android 6 for application compatibility, and come with increased RAM and storage, and new functionality such as map overlays aimed at GIS users. The hub offers the same functionality as the terminals, but serves as a display agnostic gateway, connecting Android mobiles and other external screens such as embedded vehicle displays and HMIs to the platform. All of the new devices run Android 6 and offer TomTom navigation, maps and traffic. Other elements in the Bridge ecosystem include the Bridge Partner Portal, a Develop Portal where developers can access SDKs and other relevant information, and the Bridge App Store with more than 42 business apps. The new release also introduces an additional warranty service. Both the hub and the terminals come in three models – the non-connected, connected and connected plus models.
