Countries globally are faced with decreased productivity as a result of employee obesity. In South Africa, government has spent R23-billion over nine years in prevention and treatment of lifestyle diseases associated with obesity. Power Plant Electrical Technologies (PPE) promotes physical activity and has launched incentives such as weight loss challenges for its employees. Initiatives such as the CANSA Relay for Life, the PPE cycling team and an employee community garden also add to a healthier culture at the company. Fresh fruit is supplied during meetings as alternatives to high-carbohydrate platters. PPE also raised R5500 for cancer research at the CANSA Relay for Life 2018 event in Mbombela. As an ABB channel partner, the company’s cycling team participates in the annual 94.7 Cycle Challenge together with ABB; the Cape Argus and other races in the Lowveld. PPE thanks companies such as ABB, ARB, Training Force and KSA Industrial Supplies for their support in raising funds for cancer awareness.
