The second International Slope Monitoring Conference held recently in Mokopane has been hailed as a success by event organisers 3D Laser Mapping. Attracting delegates from around the world, the two-day event featured a packed programme of technical demonstrations, user case studies and a site visit to a local mine operating six SiteMonitor systems. The conference kicked off with a keynote presentation from Huw Thomas, principal surveyor at Anglo American. This was followed by case studies from current users of 3D Laser Mapping’s laser monitoring solution, SiteMonitor, including Frans Benade of Anglo Platinum. John Davis, senior developer at 3D Laser Mapping gave a presentation on the new capabilities and features of the system and Thomas Gaisecker, senior manager of international sales at RIEGL was on hand to demonstrate the new VZ-4000 long range laser scanner. Delegates were also able to view a SiteMonitor system in operation during a visit to Anglo American Platinum’s Mogalakwena mine. Anglo Platinum currently operates six of the systems at this mine, helping to improve safety and increase production.
