The fourth Nedbank / EE Publishers seminar “Flexible power generation: a new paradigm and an alternative to ‘baseloadism’” focused on the radical changes renewable energy technology has made to global electrical networks. Renewable energy changed everything because renewable energy is the cheapest technology for generating electricity in most parts of the world today. As a result, the drive to 100% renewable energy is now unstoppable.
Thabang Chiloane, divisional executive for Nedbank Group Strategic Relations and Public Affairs, chaired the seminar. Presenters included: Chris Forlee, CEO of the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa); Stephan Vermaak, the principal investment officer, International Finance Corp (IFC), World Bank; Stefan Nygard, director of project development for Europe and Africa, Wärtsilä, Finland; and Clyde Mallinson, natural scientist, consultant and renewable energy project developer.
