Senior changes at ABB South Africa

Leon Viljoen

Carlos Poñe has been appointed as CEO for ABB in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and manager of Southern Gulf (UAE, Qatar, Oman) and Pakistan, with effect from 1 February 2013. Poñes has been with ABB for 20 years, 14 of which were served as CEO for South Africa and manager for Southern Africa. During this period he also served as the chairman of the ABB South Africa Board of Directors. As Southern Africa manager, he has been responsible for growing ABB’s business within the developing countries of the African continent.

Leon Viljoen has been appointed as the new CEO for ABB South Africa and manager for Southern Africa effective from 1 March 2013. He joins ABB from Powertech where he was CEO. Viljoen holds a BSc Eng (electrical and electronic) from the Rand Afrikaans University (now University of Johannesburg) and an MBA from Henley Management College in the UK.
