Voith is set to add even greater value to the rapidly-expanding African mining sector, following the acquisition of sections of materials handling specialist Hese, which will be integrated into Voith Turbo’s Mining and Metals division. Hese is known internationally in the mining industry for its development of the carrying belt and pushing belt drive (TT-intermediate drive). The TT-intermediate drive allows belt conveyor systems to be operated without interruption across longer distances, while the efficiency of the system is increased. It also eliminates the need for additional belt transfers while dust generation is reduced and the extracted grit is protected. These intermediate drives are still among Hese’s most important products in mining materials handling technology, alongside conveyor belt pulleys with various diameters and the retractable guide rail. These are installed in the mine shaft and allow noticeably faster transits of conveyer cages in the floor level. Hese has also made a name for itself with plant components and complete systems in the field of bulk material conveyer technology.
