???????????????????????????????ABB revealed and demonstrated its latest industrial robot at its Capital Markets Day (CMD) in London on 9 September 2014. The company says that the new robot, named “YuMi” is the result of years of research and development, and is expected to change the way in which humans and robots interact. This is a collaborative, dual-arm, small parts assembly robot which has flexible hands and a parts-feeding, camera-based location system with state of the art robotic control. The soft padded arms combined with force-sensing technology ensures the safety of human co-workers. Per Nerseth, the company’s senior vice president for the robotics department of its discrete automation and motion division, says that this robot can literally see, feel and respond in a similar way to humans. The name YuMi, from “you and me”, indicates that the robot is specifically designed to work with human co-workers on assembly lines. The demonstration unit at the CMD event assembled push-button switches with a human assistant.
