AMEU president’s legacy awards programme 2019: Call for participation

The Association of Municipal Electrical Utilities (AMEU) has introduced a new awards programme called the “Legacy Awards programme”. This was announced by Moferefere Tshabalala, the previous AMEU president in his speech at last year’s AMEU Convention in Pretoria.

The AMEU invites readers to submit their application(s) for participation by 15 June 2019.

Shortlisted candidates will be announced by September 2019 and the winners will be announced at the Gala dinner of the 27th AMEU Technical Convention 2019, which will be hosted by The City of Cape Town from Sunday, 13 October 2019 to Wednesday, 16 October 2019 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The AMEU is promoting five different awards, each with its own application form.

Municipalities wishing to participate in the “Top performing Woman in Electricity” award category are not precluded or excluded from also participating in the applicable “Top performing metropolitan municipality” award category (or vice versa). More information on the criteria for each award category can be found on the AMEU website.

Top performing metropolitan municipality (Category A municipality)

An award celebrating a top performing category A municipality with focus on revenue management, repairs and maintenance, power purchase, BBBEE procurement spend, training and development, infrastructure CAPEX spend and electrification.

Top performing local municipality (Category B municipality)

An award celebrating a top performing category B municipality with focus on revenue management, repairs and maintenance, power purchase, BBBEE procurement spend, training and development, infrastructure CAPEX spend and electrification.

Top performing Woman in Electricity
(participating utility municipalities only)

An award celebrating an outstanding woman in electricity, with focus on on leadership, innovation, service and being a role model to others in the field.

Top supporting Affiliate company (>R50-million turnover)

An award celebrating a top supporting affiliate company (>R50-million turnover) with focus on demonstrable technical support and knowledge transfer imparted by the affiliate to municipalities.

Top supporting affiliate company (<R50-million turnover)

An award celebrating a top supporting affiliate company (<R50-million turnover) with focus on demonstrable technical support and knowledge transfer imparted by the affiliate to municipalities.

Terms and conditions for participating

  • Applicants must formally apply in writing to participate in the programme.
  • As a condition when applying to participate in the programme all applicants/participants will be required to volunteer to provide all the required information as a minimum as stated in the corresponding criteria for adjudication.
  • All municipalities and affiliate companies “must be in good standing” at the time of applying for participation. This includes that all membership fees due as a member/affiliate to the AMEU must be fully paid up.
  • The Adjudication Committee reserves its rights to obtain information from other sources to assist it in the adjudication of an award(s).
  • Participation is restricted to the electricity department of a municipality or an electricity distribution MOE utility.
  • For the woman award, nominations are for women working full time in the electricity department of municipalities or an electricity distribution MOE utility only.
  • Closing date for applications is 15 June 2019.
  • Awards to be made at the AMEU Convention 2019 gala evening.
  • The AMEU reserves its rights not to make an award in any category.
