Construction software developer Bentley Systems recently demonstrated its Connect Edition software solutions at its Connection Seminars in Johannesburg on 1 June 2017. The seminars looked at the benefits of a comprehensive and connected modelling environment, with the company focussing on its MicroStations, ProjectWise and AssetWise range. ContextCapture, reality modelling software which create virtual models through photogrammetry received special attention as easy means for instant modelling. The solutions address the multi-disciplinary nature of construction by creating common data environment for various professionals.

Connect Edition is a cloud platform built on Microsoft’s Azure, which is integrated across Bentley solutions to create a connected data environment. Further highlighting the convergence of digital design and reality modelling is the company’s partnership with surveying and positioning company Topcon. Topcon’s survey and other construction solutions are now integrated into Bentley’s software, as are the two companies’ cloud solutions. Digital design emphasises data, with a common connected data environment making aggregation of field data captured with total stations and photogrammetry possible for office and mobile use.
