JB Switchgear Solutions was awarded a contract by DRA Global for the design and manufacture of skid mounted substations for a rutile mine in Sierra Leone. The substations each contain an MV/LV dry-type transformer and the LV panels which include MCCs, DBs, PLCs, PFC, UPS and fire suppression systems. The containers have a mid-point split between the transformer and switchgear assemblies and the completed substations are mounted onto heavy-duty skids to enable them to be moved around the mine. These substations cover three main areas on the site, namely the booster substations, mining input substation and scrubber substation. Operational voltage is 480 V/60 Hz with a 50 kA fault level. Incomer sizes variy from 1250 to 2500 A and VSDs up to 350 kW. Connections between the transformer and LV switchgear were done with resin-encapsulated busbars. JB Switchgear supplied its well-proven IEC 61439 certified Eagle series panels. Over 30 000 tiers of this design have been supplied to sites around the globe.
