The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) will host its 20th Domestic Use of Energy (DUE) conference between 2 and 4 April 2012. The first Domestic Use of Electrical Energy conference, as it was known then, was held in CPUT’s Commerce Building on 18 and 19 October 1993. It was convened by the then Cape Technikon in association with the Universities of Cape Town and Stellenbosch, as well as with the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers and Eskom. Delegates and presenters from many countries have attended the DUE conferences over the ensuing years and the percentage of papers by international authors has ranged from 10 to 40%. Conference themes have included electrification; energy savings; energy efficient lighting; appliance labelling; domestic water heating; prepayment and electricity theft.
