Design software furthers BIM and GIS integration

Autodesk Civil 3D continues to deliver improvements to design, performance and collaboration efficiencies, enhancing building information model (BIM) design workflows for larger, more complex infrastructure projects.  The latest release – Civil 3D 2020.1 – introduces the Autodesk Connector for ArcGIS in Civil 3D, allowing users to connect directly to the GIS data they need in Esri’s ArcGIS Online. The Connector for ArcGIS integrated BIM and GIS by enabling users to bring ArcGIS data layers that contains points, lines, polygons, feature lines, gravity pipes, parcels, or structures directly into their Civil 3D drawings. When connecting each layer, they can specify what type of Civil 3D object to create. This helps more efficiently generate the existing conditions for a specific area of interest. After incorporating the GIS data into the drawing, one can make changes to that it and use the Save Back option in the Data Source Manager to update ArcGIS with the changes. Because the connector maintains a live link to the GIS software, it ensures that consistency is maintained between what is being designed and what is in the GIS. Users can also publish Civil 3D objects to ArcGIS.
