Empowering junior miners with tech solutions

Lesika La Batho has signed partnership and software distribution rights agreements with Maptek and VersaDev Software Solutions in January 2019. The agreements incorporate training and skill development for the local Lesika team on leading technologies as well as software distribution rights to supply junior and emerging mines their technology at cost. To date Lesika, as an SMME, has provided mining technology services to Seriti and South32 Coal, and is looking to empower more junior miners as part of their digital transformation journey and to bring more tech savvy graduates to join Lesika. Transformation in the South African mining sector has historically been around equity shares in large mining companies and Social and Labour Plans (SLP) that mining communities could benefit from. However, the company aims to advance transformation by unlocking value through mutually beneficial partnerships with global mining technology companies like Maptek and VersaDev Software Solutions and localising these technologies to meet the South African mining sector, in particular emerging and junior miners.
