Energy data management innovator to open South African office

Delta Energy and Communications, an innovator in the management of energy-related data, will open an office in Cape Town in the next eight weeks. Scott Foster, the company’s founder and CEO, says that from this office, his company will offer valuable solutions to the continent and assist in extending reliable electrical supply to the 600-million residents who have no access to grid-based electricity. The company plans to provide equipment and expertise to monitor distribution transformers, as well as the software needed to gather and process data which will provide utilities with reports on the state of their distribution equipment, so that preventative maintenance can be initiated. Utilities, which are handicapped by decades-old infrastructure, dwindling system knowledge, increasing demands from customers, tighter regulations, natural and man-made disasters, and older technology, struggle to handle the huge amount of unstructured data available to them. This makes it difficult for utilities to fully benefit from a smart grid. The company also offers advanced metering infrastructure to better manage billing and energy control.
