The Eskom eta Awards have been recognising and rewarding excellence in energy efficiency for the past 25 years. This year, the standard of entries shows that energy efficiency and the green movement have entered the mainstream.
The awards encourage entries from the commercial, industrial, residential, innovation and youth sectors.
Eskom group executive sustainability Dr. Steve Lennon says the competition now receives not only entries by people experimenting with unusual ideas, but also by businesses, homeowners and young people “rising to the challenge of climate change with their innovative ideas.”
Entries were accepted in eight categories and the winner in each category received a cash prize of R30 000., Runners-up received R5000 each.
The winners were announced at an awards event at the University of Johannesburg in November 2014. This year’s submissions ranged from a carbon monoxide ventilation system to energy leadership programmes and individuals who live off-grid.
