Engineers@Lesiure: Gotta Do Dubai

If you are gonna work hard, then you better play hard – so I decided to go play hard in Dubai. Having visited briefly once before, I was not done with Dubai. It was the architecture that captivated me – in fact it was the Burj Khalifa building that called the loudest, followed by the architecture of those gorgeous mammals the dolphins and their fine lines and warm demeanours.

Settling back into my extremely comfortable business class seat on Qatar Airlines – I know, I know but someone has to do it – I flew comfortably and well pampered to Dubai, where my every whim was catered for.

The “Burj”

The Burj Khalifa has always fascinated me. This towering building reaches the sky in progressive layers of shimmering glass. About three weeks before I left, a new tourist option for visiting the “Burj” was launched, the Burj Khalifa SKY visit. Booked. Done deal. It’s a special encounter. One is shimmied into a waiting lounge complete with dates and Turkish coffee on call. Once all the numbers add up, off we go. One and a half ear-popping minutes is all it takes in the lift from the ground floor to level 125! Then onto the next lift up to the 148th level, making it the highest observation deck in the world.

The view is spectacular. The towering buildings below this tallest building in the world seem to blend into the sandy surrounds. The “Burj” comprises apartments, offices and hotels. The SKY experience gives you complimentary Middle Eastern delicacies to munch on and fresh fruit juices as you walk around this visual extravaganza.
