Eskom has published a press release quoting the utility’s chairman, Zola Tsotsi, reaffirming his board’s confidence in the ability of Collin Matjila to lead and manage Eskom in the interim period, and stating that it is satisfied that Matjila has no aspiration for the permanent appointment as CEO. Tsotsi says that the board has noted the allegations which are currently being published in the media against Matjila, but that it is confident that these issues are being dealt with by the relevant organisations which Matjila was involved in at the time. “We believe that these allegations have no bearing on his current role at Eskom as the process is not yet complete”, Tsotsi says. The utility reports that the process to appoint a new CEO is at an advanced stage and a submission will soon be made to Lynne Brownthe minister of public enterprises, for her consideration.
