A fire damaged Block A of the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA)’s  head office  in Sandton yesterday (30 May). The block houses the licensing, policy, research and analysis, the regional divisions as well as the Gauteng regional office.

icasa-fire-640-6-(1)Investigations are continuing to determine the cause of the fire. One employee who wishes to remain anonymous said it was an air-conditioning unit that blew up and started the fire.   Some employees were taking to hospital for observation. ICASA spokesperson, Paseka Maleka said that the extent of the damage to the building cannot be confirmed until the investigation has been completed. However, ICASA has assured all its stakeholders that it has prioritised the matter and everything will be back to normal as soon as possible. Last night ICASA thanked the emergency services for a speedy response in extinguishing the fire before it got out of control.  The Authority also said that other blocks and divisions within ICASA are fully operational to provide a service to the South African public.
