South Africa’s first official UAV airshow, the Geomatics Indaba 2015 – UAV Airshow, was a resounding success with over 400 delegates attending the event which was held on 10 August 2015 at the Barnstormers Model Flying Club in Ekurhuleni. Organised by the South African Geomatics Institute (SAGI), the Institute of Mine Surveyors of Southern Africa (IMSSA) and the Geo-Information Society of South Africa (GISSA), in partnership with EE Publishers, the airshow provided a platform for interested members of the geospatial community to learn more about drones which are also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS).
