Geomatics Indaba 2015 launched for success

Representatives of the South African geospatial community gathered on 22 January 2015 at Emperors Palace, Johannesburg to attend the launch of South Africa’s largest surveying, geospatial, remote sensing, mapping and location-based services conference, Geomatics Indaba 2015.

Hosted by South Africa’s professional geospatial bodies, the South African Geomatics Institute (SAGI), the Geo-Information Society of South Africa (GISSA) and the Institute of Mine Surveyors of Southern Africa (IMSSA), in partnership with EE Publishers,  Geomatics Indaba 2015 takes place on 11, 12 and 13 August 2015 at Emperors Palace in Ekurhuleni.

PLATO President Elbe van Rensburg, SAGI President Peter Newmarch, GISSA Chairperson Adrian Roos, GISSA Deputy Chairperson Morena Letsosa, IMSSA Vice President Ebrahim Ramzan as well as IMSSA Past Presidents Alex Bals and Fred Cawood,  attended the launch and encouraged the attendees to support this industry-led event which seeks to educate, inform and network the Southern African geospatial community.

Speaking at the launch, EE Publishers managing director Chris Yelland presented an overview of what the conference entails, and outlined the opportunities for sponsors, exhibitors, presenters and delegates. Guests were taken on a walkthrough of the venue and shown the various plenary rooms, the exhibition area, and the workshop and training venues.

With its theme of “Developing spatial technologies and skills for strategic infrastructure planning”, Geomatics Indaba 2015 will bring together geospatial practitioners from across South Africa and internationally to learn about new geospatial technologies, professional developments and the latest work and research being carried out by the geospatial sector, both nationally and internationally.

Over 700 delegates are expected to attend the conference; along with international key note speakers, South African keynote speakers, VIPS and decision makers. International support and endorsement for Geomatics Indaba 2015 has been provided by the Federation of International Surveyors (FIG) and the Global Spatial Data Infrastructure association (GSDI). In addition, academic institutions from across South Africa have endorsed the conference and an academic track is in place to ensure that the latest and best geospatial research is showcased at Geomatics Indaba 2015.
