africageo-123-08-2014The Geo-information Society of South Africa (GISSA) exhibited at the recent AfricaGEO 2014 conference in Cape Town. The GISSA booth showcased the activities of GISSA members across South Africa, where participation continues to increase across all regions, particularly in the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu Natal and Mpumalanga. Branches from the various regions arrange CPD-accredited meetings that are tailored to the challenges and opportunities in those specific areas. GISSA volunteers from GISSA Western Cape manned the booth throughout the conference, answering questions from members and interested parties alike. In particular, Sue Kirchner, Zoltan Szecsei and Chlodwick Rossouw put in a lot of work in preparation for the conference, with able support from Jenny Sturgess, serving on the GISSA National Marketing Portfolio. The opportunity to invest back in to the South African Geomatics Community by supporting AfricaGEO, a CONSAS Conference, is welcomed by GISSA. The proceeds from AfricaGEO go to the CONSAS Fund, which is used for the funding and promotion of geomatics education in South Africa.
