Pressure sensors to reduce wiring complexity

Ifm Electronic’s PI27and PI28 series pressure sensors with LED display can be connected as three or four-wire units, and as two-wire units in a current loop. This is said to reduce the wiring complexity in new installations and to facilitate exchange in existing two-wire connections. The sensors can be used as simple loop powered two-wire transducers or as three-wire switches. The LED display works in all modes. The PI2 series is offered with either standard conical G1process connection (PI28) or the company’s adaptable Aseptoflex Vario thread (PI27). This can be combined with other standard compliant process adapters. The PI2 series is designed with a high temperature medium rating up to 145°C and is suitable for SIP and CIP applications in food and other processes industries. When used as a two-wire loop powered pressure transducer, the PI2 series will display and transmit a scalable signal of between 4 and 20 mA. With a third connection, it becomes a switch with a PNP or NPN switched output, and a fourth connection makes both the switch and analogue signals available to the user. The product is said to offer high overall accuracy (0,2%) and electronic temperature compensation applies across the board regardless of the unit’s pressure range. Eight pressure ranges are offered e.g. -1 bar to +25 bar, or -0,051 bar to 0,1 bar. The company says the stainless steel housing (IP rating up to IP69K) is suited to food environments. Wetted parts consist of stainless steel, ceramics and PTFE.
