The theme of the National Laboratory Association of South Africa (NLA-SA) T&M 2016 Conference was “Imagine It! Measure it!”, and papers and discussions supported Walt Disney’s famous premise that “if you can visualise it, if you can dream it, there’s some way to do it”. The technical sessions on analytical measurements, calibration and physical testing were wide-ranging on developments in stack emission testing, civil materials testing, water and quality, amongst other topics. Nearly 60 papers were presented to 300 delegates at the conference which took place from 26 to 28 September 2016 in Centurion, Gauteng.
A highlight of the conference was the award of the winning papers which were:
- Technical – Physical Metrology: Frank Liebmann, presented by Gavin McQuillan from Fluke.
- Technical – Chemical Metrology: Gerald Woollatt from Levego.
- Technical – Chemical Testing: Kelley Reynolds-Clausen and Karen Surridge-Talbot from Eskom and University of Pretoria.
- Non-Technical: Guy Snelling from Intercal.
- Special mention: Neill Rosenthal from Technology Systems Integration.
- Training awards: Vania Betcheva, Miranda Leq, Paul-Felix Motsoeneng and Jaco van Brakel.
