Gauteng-based JB Switchgear Solutions was recently awarded a contract by Exel E&I for the supply of three containerised substations for Shanduka Coal’s Wonderfontein Colliery near Middelburg in Mpumalanga. These  substations contain motor control centres, PLC and marshaling panels, plant DBs, UPSs and fire suppression systems. A variety of VSDs and soft starters were also included. The motor control centres featured NewElec’s New Code electronic overloads with Profibus communication protocol, on some 76 starter circuits. In addition, the contract included a container-based control room, two outdoor kiosks, fiber-optic CCTV panels, field isolator stations and junction boxes. Excel E&I worked closely with JB Switchgear’s engineers to do full functional and programming tests prior to dispatch, to ensure a quick commissioning phase after installation on site.
