Johannesburg local Dumisa Mhlobo (24) has joined Maptek in a year-long learnership programme to work in general office administration and assist the I-Site team with logistics. He jumped at the opportunity, which is designed to give young people entry into the workforce through training and workplace learning. Mhlobo said Maptek’s position as a leading developer and provider of mining technology piqued his interest in the company, and that the company’s innovation excites him.

He will help the office be even more streamlined and productive. “Dumisa has very good communication skills and his call centre experience will go a long way in helping him interact with our clients and suppliers,” I-Site Africa regional manager Elton du Plessis said. “My hope is that he develops from the role and gains valuable real-world work experience.” Du Plessis believes that it is vital for companies such as Maptek to give young, ambitious people a chance to launch their careers. He added, “It’s tough to build a career without experience and if we can play a small part by helping with references then I’m all for it.”
