New compact lidar released for UAVs

The Riegl miniVUX-2UAV is an ultra-lightweight (1,55 kg) airborne laser scanner, designed specifically for integration with drones (UAS/UAV/RPAS). The company has added this new miniaturized UAV sensor to its versatile portfolio of professional solutions for UAV-based surveying. This sister type of the proven Riegl miniVUX-1UAV sensors offers 100 kHz and 200 kHz PRR. With the 200 kHz PRR, the sensor provides up to 200 000 measurements per second and thus, a dense point pattern on the ground for UAV-based applications that require the acquisition of small objects. The new sensor makes use of the company’s waveform lidar technology, allowing echo digitisation and online waveform processing. Multi-target resolution is the basis for penetrating even dense foliage. The sensor has a multi-target capability of up to five target echoes per laser shot. As a further special feature, the wavelength is optimised for the measurement of snowy and icy terrain. In addition to the stand-alone version of the miniVUX-2UAV, the company also offers fully-integrated solutions. The sensor is well suited to applications including agriculture and forestry, construction-site monitoring, landslide monitoring and archaeology and cultural heritage documentation.
