The NewCode relay from NewElec is an ISO 9001:2000 compliant, locally designed and manufactured three phase electronic motor protection relay. The relay is fully configurable with the aid of free front-end software or a man-machine interface unit (MMI). An on-board data base stores fault and event records, which are date and time stamped. The front-end data recorder and spectrum analyser can be used to monitor motor performance or to detect up to the 9th harmonic of any three phase current. Thermal overload, over and under voltage and voltage symmetry protection, as well as frequency, power factor and power dissipation measurement, are basic features offered by the relay. More advanced features including starter logic and logic function blocks which, coupled with its communication options, make this relay an ideal solution for plant protection and automation. For maintenance engineers, the relay records the last 1660 events as well as the last 40 faults together with details such as current interrupted, minimum voltage present at the time, rapidity of circuit interruption and the time and date of occurrence. Setting alterations are also recorded. The relay also records the motor kilowatt hour utilisation, motor “on-load” running time and total “motor available time”.
