In addition to the R100 000 cash prize for the winning male and female in the 42,2 km open category of the annual Nike Soweto Marathon, energy management company Schneider Electric will fly the winners to Paris, France, to compete in the Schneider Electric Paris Marathon with its approximately 50 000 participants and unprecedented international media exposure in April 2015.

The company has joined a number of organisations this year to revive the Nike Soweto Marathon, to be hosted on 2 November 2014 in Johannesburg.

The race will feature a 10; 21,1 and 42,2 km race. It is organised by Central Gauteng Athletics and the Soweto Marathon Trust. Schneider Electric also intends to make the marathon the first “energy positive” race in South Africa. A total of 7000 places are available for each race, and the prize money totals R700 000.

Registration for the marathon is open online at or in store at Nike Stores; at The Zone@Rosebank, Sandton City Mall; the Orlando Community Centre in Soweto; the Run AWay Store in Pretoria, and at The Sweat Shop in Johannesburg and Pretoria.
