Planet acquires Boundless opensource GIS software

Planet has acquired Boundless Spatial, a geospatial software solutions company.  The acquisition expands the Planet’s commercial business with the US government and commercial agriculture clients. Boundless is a leader in geospatial data management software and is aligned with the company’s objective to deliver novel geospatial data subscription services and accelerate adoption for enterprise customers. With the addition, the company will leverage the geospatial software technology and expertise deployed inside the US government to further facilitate the utility of Planet products. It will also incorporate its customer-centric culture, which is at the heart of its success in deploying geospatial data and technologies to customers. Further, this deal will also give Planet new US Government customers.  Planet will retain Boundless’ office and select staff. Boundless and the Planet US government team will form a subsidiary called Planet Federal, which will focus on its growing US government business representing Planet’s commercial products for US government requirements.  Through this acquisition, the company advances its long-term objectives to support and work more closely with the US government as they increasingly look toward commercial products and services that are scalable, cost-effective and reliable.
