SANSA appoints new director of Earth Observation

Andiswa Mlisa has been appointed as the managing director of the South African National Space Agency’s (SANSA) Earth Observation directorate on 1 October 2017. Before joining the agency, she was the Department of Science and Technology’s Senior Science and Technology representative to the Group on Earth Observation (GEO) based in Geneva, Switzerland, where she was responsible for coordinating AfriGEOSS initiatives.

Mlisa has experience in the development of partnerships for earth observation initiatives and brings with her expert knowledge, understanding and a long-term passion for earth observations and space applications, as well as 17 years experience from international, intergovernmental and private sector organisations.

She holds an MSc in GIS and Remote Sensing from the University of Stellenbosch, a BSc Honours (Cum Laude) in Applied Remote Sensing and GIS, and a BSc in Geology, Computer Science and GIS from the University of Fort Hare.
