Siemens has announced the purchase of Crabtree Electrical Accessories in South Africa and its associated Lesotho business from Powertech Industries, a division of Allied Electronics Corporation Limited (Altron), subject to the grant of required approvals from the relevant competition authorities. Established in 1947, the business is to be renamed Crabtree South Africa and will be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Siemens. It was part of UK-based Crabtree Electrical Industries, which now trades in the UK as part of Electrium Sales, owned in turn by Siemens. Crabtree is one of South Africa’s main manufacturers of LV wiring accessories, cable systems and power cords and operates predominantly within the South Africa construction market with some sales to the sub-Saharan region. It serves a broad range of construction customers through an established distributor network. The acquisition is said to provide Siemens with manufacturing know-how through the facilities at Wadeville and in Lesotho.
