Wika Instruments hosted the August technology evening for the Johannesburg branch of the SAIMC. Lloyd Townsend from Wika gave an insightful presentation on sensor technology and how the company decides which sensor to offer a client while highlighting sensor limitations and presented comparisons.

Townsend went into technical details of the technologies that Wika uses in its sensors. He discussed the performance and applications of the ceramic thick film, metal thin film and piezo-resistive sensor technology. This included the working principle of a diaphragm seal and the cooling performance on a sensor in relation to the ambient temperature, which can vary significantly depending on the application.

He answered a number of questions from the audience which involved explanations of various terms used. The technology evening was well-attended by members who had not been to regular technology evenings this year, and they were urged to attend more in future.
