Sharp recently installed six solar charging stations at a sports facility known as “J Village” in Japan’s Fukushima Prefecture. The solar charging station is a solar panel-generated electricity supply for users of the sports facility to charge their smartphone while at the facility. As it is equipped with a storage battery, it can be used even on days when the amount sunshine is reduced, and also at night.

J Village is one of Japan’s leading large-scale sports facilities with 11 indoor/outdoor football grounds, fitness gyms, swimming pools, accommodation and training facilities, and more. The facility served as a response centre for the nuclear accident following the country’s devastating earthquake in March 2011. The facility has resumed business and is introducing renewable energy equipment such as solar and wind power generation. This installation is easily accessible from anywhere and is available to everyone, including athletes and spectators who visit this facility, free of charge.
