Standardisation saves retraining time and cost

Lucy Electric has been awarded a two year contract with Western Power Distribution (WPD) in England to provide the power utility with combined heavy duty cut-outs (HDCOs) and CT chambers. A key requirement of the tender, which is worth more than £250 000, is to introduce a single product type which removes the need for a separate CT panel and which standardises metering chambers across the utility’s South West and Midlands regions. The company re-configured the design of its existing CT chamber to incorporate a traditional style test terminal block and mounted the different elements on a single backboard. This reduces the time taken during the installation process by removing the need to connect separate units together on site. It also retained the test environment that the meter operators are familiar with, which helps to keep the risk of error to a minimum and removes the need for retraining. The integrated solution has resulted in a neater, more uniform look for the whole unit.
