At Xchange 2016, the annual Wonderware user conference, Deon van Aardt, the company’s technical director, introduced a new concept: the Wonderware Development Studio Online which is a cloud-based technology to enable engineers to carry out proof of concepts on new developments without the need of first acquiring costly infrastructure. It facilitates the understanding of the benefits of new systems without the need to make an investment until the application proves beneficial to the company. It also provides a safe and risk-free environment for training and upskilling staff. Development Studio Online is expected to be available in the next few months.

Van Aardt was one of the many speakers at Xchange 2016 in the four breakaway streams featured at the conference. The plenary sessions featured a keynote by Ravi Gopinath, executive VP, Software Business, Schneider Electric.

Gopinath focused on driving the transformation of the industrial software market. He said that this transformation was driven by the tough capital market and the industrial internet of things which is driving huge expansion in data acquisition which needs to be meaningfully interpreted and used to drive greater operational efficiency. Features editor Hans van de Groenendaal had an in-depth conversation with Gopinath – see the May edition of EngineerIT.
